There are some advantages and disadvantages to both credit and debit cards. Both cards can work well or poorly depending on the person and the purchase

The main advantage of a debit card is control of spending. Knowing that the money used to purchase items are directly withdrawn from you bank account, you are more likely to think twice before you make a purchase. It's also harder to rack up a huge debt with a debit card since you can only spend what you already have.

Debit cards are also convenient. They can be used as a replacement for cash when making smaller purchases instead of fumbling around in your wallet for change or small bills or coins.

Debit cards are a good choice for those who can’t get approval for a credit card, or have trouble keeping their expenses under control.
