4.A study performed by the Energy and Transportation Science division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory indicates that replacing clogged filters on cars with fuel injected, computer controlled gasoline engines does not improve gas mileage. However, acceleration time is increased from 6 to 11 percent. Changing the air filter on carbureted engines can increase fuel economy by up to 14 percent depending on the condition of the car.
