1.Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid accelerations and stops) cost you money on gas. On the highway, aggressive driving lowers your gas mileage by 33 percent and by 5 percent around town.

2.Drive at speeds below 60 miles per hour. Each vehicle reaches it fuel economy at different speeds. On average however, gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 miles per hour. Tests have shown that cars driven at 65 miles per hour will use 17 % more fuel than one at 55 miles per hour. At speeds above 60 miles per hour, you will use 7 - 23 % more gas.

3.Unnecessary items in your car can cost you on gas especially heavy items. An extra 100 pounds could reduce your mileage by up to 2 percent. This number is higher for smaller cars.

4.Avoid idling. Idling cost you gas and you get 0 miles per hour from your car just sitting there. Cars with larger engines burn more gas than smaller ones.

5.Use cruise control. A constant speed will save you gas.

6.When you use overdrive gearing, your cars engine speed goes down, saving gas and reducing engine wear.
